Forged Art! The art of blacksmithing
Oct. 15 - Nov. 28, 2007

Wells County Creative Arts Center
211 W. Water Street, Bluffton IN 46714
260-824-5222
www.wellscocreativearts.com

Blacksmithing is not defined by a time period or an artist motif.
Blacksmithing is defined by the process alone. Visit the Creative Arts
Center as the focus is on "Forged Art! The art of blacksmithing" from Oct.
15 through Nov. 28, 2008. This unique heritage exhibit celebrates the art of
forged metal, from garden ironworks to architectural elements, home
furnishing to tools. It includes a variety of both rustic and contemporary
pieces and is a fascinating look at the artistry involved in shaping metal.

Rob Evans: Area residents are used to seeing Dr. Rob Evans handle much
smaller metal-working equipment at his dental practice in Bluffton. But, in
his tidy studio, he uses traditional techniques to create sleek,
contemporary iron work of all sizes. A member of the Indiana Blacksmithing
Association and the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America, his
pieces have been published by the national art blacksmithing magazine, The
Anvil's Ring.

Stephen E. Wooldridge: Wooldridge grew up helping in his grandfather's
blacksmith shop in Shelby County. Now, the Sheridan resident is a blacksmith
and metal sculptor whose works have been displayed around the world.
Locally, several of his large landscape pieces can be seen on the IUPUI
campus and throughout the Indianapolis arts district. For this exhibit,
Wooldridge is displaying six of his 52 massive Iron Man blacksmithing
pieces. Resembling large chess pieces, he was inspired to create the series
during his training with David Smith and Richard Serra.

Mark Thomas: Thomas has been blacksmithing since 1997. The owner of MT Forge blacksmithing shop in Markle (pronounced Em-Tee), he spends much of his time on the road at rendezvous throughout the region. Thomas' traditional blacksmith pieces for the CAC exhibit include a variety of household and camp items. At his forge, a camp two-slot toaster becomes a work of art. Simple hooks are decorative hangers.

Regional Winners Opens at Artlink

Friday, October 12, opening reception 7-9 p.m.
Exhibition runs through November 20, 2007
Artlink, Inc., 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802
(260) 424-7195
Free for Artlink members; Non-members, $2 suggested donation
CONTACT: Deb Washler, Executive Director, deb@artlinkfw.com

The Regional Winners exhibition opens at Artlink’s Main Gallery with a reception on Friday, October 12, from 7 to 9:00 p.m. This is an exhibition of recent artwork by the three winners of Artlink’s 2006 Regional Exhibition. The exhibit includes earthenware sculpture by Dianna Huxhold, mixed media wall work by Audrey Riley and paintings by Kat Rohrbacher.

Dianna Huxhold has exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally. Her sculptural clay figures are assembled from human and animal components made of hand-built, low-fire earthenware. Besides the pedestal and floor pieces, there is an installation piece entitled “Harvesting a New Foundation.” A wire nest containing clay eggs hangs suspended from the ceiling above a mound of soil with shards of brick and ceramic egg shapes sticking out. Huxhold’s work relays messages about the human life cycle and the work is fun to look at.

Audrey Riley is a mixed media artist. Some of her work is built on a base made of “Do it Best Hardware” yard sticks which Riley has decorated with the printed word through wood burning, stencils, pronto prints, beads, pins and much more. Riley’s newest mixed media twist is the addition of wood-turned pieces to her assemblages. Some pieces entail over 200 hours of labor. The work is different and exciting and always has a message.

Young Fort Wayne painter Kat Rohrbacher is a 2005 graduate of the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She found her voice when she met her birth mother and relatives who actually look like her. Rohrbacher demonstrates strong Chicago-style paint application and has demonstrated her skill with a series of portraits of her new-found family.

Mixed Media on Paper by Nikia Vogel will be on display in Artlink’s Hallway Gallery also through November 20. The display may be viewed during regular gallery hours and before and after Cinema Center performances.

American Glory Sculpture Collection Celebrates Historic Patriotic Icons

Contemporary avant-garde designers Tor Duane and Delayne are celebrating the launch of their unique hand-made collection of metal sculptures celebrating progressive periods in American history. The collection includes a steam locomotive, a stylized Civil War cannon and futuristic rocket ship. The gala affair will take place at the Fort Wayne Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun Street, at 6pm to 9pm on Friday, October 26, 2007.

Head designer Tor Duane says, 'We created these replicas of nationalistic icons to visually stimulate the memories and glory associated with major progressive movements in American history. The steam locomotive represents America’s bold railroad expansion across the vast lands. The Civil War cannon stands as a symbol of the strife that took place in making America a strong democratic society. The rocket ship blazes towards the heavens in celebration of mankind’s daring reach towards the stars and space exploration.' Phoenix, AZ gallery owner Wendy Towne notes, 'Tor Duane and Delayne have captured the essence of these colorful American iconic symbols by including the most unique features of the original items. They have combined pain-staking craftsmanship with a terrific sense of scale and proportion to create sculptures which engage the imagination and stir the soul.'

The company plans to expand their line to include additional icons of American history that serve to illustrate and illuminate courageous strides forward the United States of America has made in the name of progress and exploration. Information is available by e-mailing the designers at FashionUniverse23@Hotmail.com or by calling (310) 779 3300.
