Thanks to the generosity of Lincoln Financial Foundation, Artlink presented $2,200 in cash awards to the nation’s best printmakers from its 32nd Annual National Print Exhibition. Lincoln has been the print show’s sponsor for the past 17 years. For 32 years, Artlink has sent out a call for entry to every university in the United States that has a print department. This year the exhibition was curated and the award winners were selected by Ladislav R. Hanka of Kalamazoo, Michigan. 45 printmakers from 26 states were selected by Hanka to exhibit 71 hand-pulled prints. The exhibit opened on April 13 and will continue through May 23 at the Auer Center, 300 E. Main Street, Fort Wayne. All artwork is for sale.
Seven Indiana artists are included in this exhibition. Fort Wayne artists include Art Cislo, art instructor from the University of Saint Francis, who was an award winner, and Christopher Ganz, IPFW’s print professor. Johnson and his wife Sarojini Jha Johnson of Muncie, both print instructors at Ball State University made the cut with Sarojini winning a prize. Also included were Judy Leiviska of Indianapolis and Julie Wall Toles from Huntertown. A free print catalogue listing all participants is available at the gallery, along with a glossary of print terminology.
The juror, Ladislav R. Hanka of Kalamazoo, Michigan, received his MFA in Printmaking from Western Michigan University and has been exhibiting nationally and internationally since the 1980’s.
