Artlink’s Holiday Vacation Workshops are designed to provide families with something different to do for the holidays. Fun was a big factor in planning these workshops. The whole family can share creative experiences with the wonderful artists of Fort Wayne. All workshops are held at Artlink, Auer Center for Arts and Culture, 300 E. Main Street, Fort Wayne. Recycled Mixed Media Picture FrameTuesday, December 27, 1 – 3 p.m.
Ages 8 to adults, $25 General Public, $20 Artlink MembersArt Farm artist extraordinaire, Lisa Vetter will show you how to create a personalized and artsy picture frame from recycled materials. For collaging, students should bring some paper supplies, cereal or cracker boxes, favorite magazines or colored tissues. Also bring favorite little items, small shells or beads to personalize your frame. Lisa provides basic construction items, Modge-Podge, scissors, glue, some 2-D materials.
StoryboardingTuesday, December 27, 1 – 4 p.m.
7th–12th grade to adults, $36 General Public, $31 Artlink MembersArtist and Fort Wayne teacher, Jeremy McFarren, teaches storytelling and pacing in comic book and cartooning forms. Learn how to drive a narrative with style and substance; learn how to avoid the pitfalls of bad storytelling. Students should have basic drawing skills. Bring good black markers – Sharpies, Pitts or Microns. No ballpoint pens please. Paper will be supplied.
Painting with Terry RatliffWednesday, December 28, 2 – 5 p.m.
Ages 12 to adult, $42 General Public, $37 Artlink MembersSpend an afternoon with Fort Wayne’s premier painter, Terry Ratliff. You don’t have to be a trained artist to participate. Remember, we’re here to have fun! Terry will guide you in painting your own still life. A creative spirit is the only prerequisite to this class. Beverages will be served. Students will paint in acrylics on canvas board which Terry has primed and toned. Bring an apron or old shirt to paint in. If you are an artist, bring your own acrylics and brushes!
Make Stuff with Duct TapeWednesday, December 28, 2 – 4 p.m.
6th grade to adults, $26 General Public, $21 Artlink MembersAmy Clark, FWCS art teacher, will teach you how to make cool stuff – a purse or wallet out of all-purpose duct tape. Students bring a roll of their favorite color duct tape – found at most hardware stores.
Sharpie Art on Found ObjectsThursday, December 29, 2 – 4 p.m.
Ages 12 through adult, $26 General Public, $21 Artlink MembersAmy Clark, FWCS art teacher, will guide and direct students as they decorate their found objects with Sharpie markers using their own personal flair! Students can bring their own found object to decorate or Amy will have bowling pins available. Artlink will provide both black and colored Sharpies.
Stencil ArtThursday, December 29, 2 – 4 p.m.
6th grade through adults, $36 General Public, $31 Artlink MembersCreative stencil artist Jason Rowland will show you how to cut and spray paint your own stencil. This exciting technique is a great way to add graphic style to your art. Bring your own surface to paint on, such as a piece of thick paper, flat wood, or canvas; and bring a mask to use while spraying. Students should bring a design they would like to paint. High contrast, sharp-edged images work best for stenciling. Artlink provides all spray paint and other needed materials.
Beginner’s KnittingFriday, December 30, 1 – 3 p.m.
All-age appropriate, $29 General Public, $24 Artlink MembersClare Tarr, knitting pro, will show you the basic knitting stitch and you can start knitting your own scarf! Bring number 9 or 10 knitting needles; Clare will provide the yarn.
Wire TreesFriday, December 30, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
1st through 8th grade (grades 1 through 5 must be accompanied by an adult), $36 General Public, $31 Artlink MembersHeather Miller will guide children in making their own individual wire tree out of aluminum wire and other materials. Children will twist and pull materials to create gnarled and unique topiaries. Trees can reach 1 foot tall. Heather has taught children for 15 years and currently teaches at Avilla’s Montessori school. All supplies will be provided.
