Artlink’s Artsy-Fun Workshops Begin
Artlink is offering an ongoing series called Artsy-Fun Workshops for creative children and for adults who are not necessarily artists but are artistically inclined. On Saturday, December 3, from noon to 2:30 p.m. Artlink presents a Paper Pulp Painting workshop conducted by Heather Miller. Children of all ages can participate. Miller will demonstrate the art of painting with paper pulp. Students will make the pulp, then design and execute their very own painting. Workshop fee is $28 for Artlink members and $33 for the general public. All supplies will be provided by Miller and Artlink. On Tuesday, December 6, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Artlink presents a Holiday Card Making workshop conducted by local artist, Sue Sells. Sells will demonstrate four styles of embellished cards. Participants will be able to make eight cards in the different styles to take home with them. Sells and Artlink will provide all the materials needed to create these festive, dazzling and fun holiday cards. You’ll use rubber stamps, glitter glues, special papers and more. Workshop fee is $22 for Artlink members and $27 for the general public. New this year: Porcelain Cat bells by Kim Rorick, Raku fired ornaments by Sue Davis & Steve Vachon, Mixed metal bird ornaments by Janet Webb & whimsical clay ornaments, wall plaques & tree sculptures by Kristy Jo Beber. Many favorites from year's past, including freestanding trees by Carol Heath & mixed media on wood ornaments by Marsha Filipiak. Blown glass ornaments by Larry Mack are great for the holiday tree & will bring cheer all year round! Ornaments made from gourds by Sue Westhues & local artist, Alison Adams. On Friday, December 2nd, 2011 the Art Farm will throw open their studio doors with an opening reception for their annual Holiday Studio Show. This year’s show features 10 artists both local and national. Mediums include functional and decorative ceramics from two local artists, Kristy Jo Beber and Laura Christian-Brandenberg, handmade glass bead jewelry from Marjorie Rawson (MI), also from MI, and a perennial favorite, is metal artist Cherie Haney, recycled wearable fiber artist Sarah Martin (OH) shows here for her Indiana debut, John Boyett (OH) will have his colorful blown glass spheres including the incredible tree of life design, Atlanta artist Angela Bond is back this year with her pop art animal prints, Chicago artist Dolan Geiman is sure to delight the crowd with his “contemporary art with a southern accent” and your hosts Lisa Vetter and Paul Siefert will have their always entertaining found object functional art as well as Lisa’s spirited jewelry . Other than the spring studio tour, this is the only time of year that the Art Farm is open to the public so don’t miss this chance to support the arts while checking off your gift list. Artlink invites the public to a Studio Visit at the home of acclaimed Fort Wayne wood turner Barry Belknap on Wednesday, November 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided by Artlink. Entry fee is $10 for the public and $5 for Artlink members.
Belknap is a woodturning artist with extraordinary talent. His work speaks of his love of the material – wood. Belknap has a great collection of domestic and exotic wood including rosewood, Amboyna, Buckeye, Ziricote and many more which will be on display. Belknap will explain how he makes his beautiful, wooden art by utilizing a display of bowls in various stages of turning. There will be a wood aroma contest with a beautiful wood-turned prize for the winner.
