Ceramics – Made from clay or a mixture of organic materials finished by firing.

1 theme, 1 opening night, 2 locations only steps apart, so there won't even be time to get chilled by the weather. Northside Galleries will be displaying over 35 artists and their individual interpretations of "The American Woman." Zia's will be
displaying the photographic fine art of Randy Jackson. Randy's work and ideas are why we, at Northside Galleries, jumped on board with the theme and opened it up to any local or regional artist who wanted to submit their pieces. There will be both 2 and 3 dimensional work on display. Coffee, refreshments and snacks will be served at both locations throughout the evening. Parking will be available in the lot to the west of Northside Galleries as well as in the shopping center at Nature's Corner. Artists at Northside Galleries include:

Call for Entries--ArtFest at 2011 RiverFest

CALL FOR ENTRIES ~ ARTFEST at 2011 IPFW RIVERFEST

Join us along the grassy banks of the St. Joseph River for ArtFest at the 2011 IPFW RiverFest, on Saturday, June 25, 2011 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Artists and craftspeople are invited to submit their applications for this juried event on the beautiful IPFW campus in the categories of either Fine Art or Crafts. Other RiverFest activities include a variety of music, food, family fun, pontoon rides, fireworks, and more.

A complete prospectus with rules and an application will be available on the event website − ipfwriverfest.org − by February 1st. (It's not there just yet.)

Applications must be received by April 22, 2011.

Arts United Kickoff Party on January 27th

Arts United is pleased to invite the community to a free kickoff party for their annual fund drive. The reception will be held Thursday, January 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Arts United Center, 303 E Main Street, Fort Wayne.

Those who attend the annual fund drive kickoff will be the first to see Arts United’s exhibit called the “Community Mosaic.” The display includes dozens of three feet square paintings decorating the large lobby wall at the Arts United Center during the Arts United fund drive. Attendees of the kickoff party will also enjoy JK O’Donnell’s food and beverages, entertainment by the Fort Wayne Youtheatre, and see displays with information about leading arts organizations supported by Arts United.

Arts United conducts a campaign each year to raise funding for local arts and cultural organizations. In its mission to support the arts, the organization also provides affordable facilities, back-office services and administers a health care plan for a wide-range of non-profit groups. The annual fund drive takes place from February through April with a goal of $1 million.

This is the third year for the Community Mosaic exhibit. This year, 50 diverse local artists, including professionals, amateurs and children volunteered for this public art project. The display represents the diverse interests and skill levels of those who support the arts in our greater Fort Wayne community. Community Mosaic will be on display until mid-April. Arts United Center patrons are encouraged to vote for their favorite panel, the artists with the most votes will win prizes.

Warm outerwear is recommended for folks who want to enjoy the treat of watching a 300 pound block of ice be transformed into wonderful artwork. Ice sculptor Bud Lies will be on hand to create the piece for those who stop by to observe the process.

The Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre performances and by appointment. The gallery is free and open to the public.

Drawing from his youth in New Jersey and Massachusetts, to his art education in Indiana and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, Stopa will off his perspective on the current nature of community, artists, and art production from a regional perspective.
