Janet Webb and Cynthia Ballinger at Orchard in September
Mixed Metal & Colorful Enamel Jewelry by Janet Webb
Janet will explore using torch fired enamel to add a pop of color to her mixed metal jewelry. From Janet: "I make art to be worn."
Good workmanship is as important to me as good design. Using my hands and assorted pliers, hammers, torches and saws, I shape and manipulate sterling silver sheet, wire, and copper into contemporary designs. Texture is achieved by acid etching, hammering and stamping. Color is added to my pieces with hand poured resin. I hand make chains and most of my findings: ear wires, toggles and pin backs. My work is continually changing and growing.
Pit Fired Vessels by Cynthia Ballinger
From Cynthia: "As a clay artist I am drawn to the unpredictable yet intriguing effects that smoke and fire can make. Therefore, Pit firing has become my favorite methods of firing. The pieces are first constructed by using the coil building method, then a slip of Terra sigillata is applied, fired once in the electric kiln then placed into the burning barrel with straw and the fire is left to do it's magic. Pit firing may be the oldest form of firing but it never ceases to be challenging and exciting."
September 1-30, 2010
OPEN: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat: 10-5. Tues & Thurs: 10-7 .
