Local University Art Faculties Shine at Artlink
Artlink’s Regional University Exhibition, featuring the work of art faculty members from Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), University of St. Francis (USF), and for the first time, Huntington University, will open in Artlink’s Main Gallery at 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne, on Saturday, March 6 with a public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. A Gallery Walk-through will begin at 6 p.m. when one instructor from each of the universities will talk about their own work and answer questions from the audience. The exhibit will be up through April 7. The exhibition is sponsored by the architectural firm of Morrison, Kattman and Menze in honor of George Morrison.
Participating in the Gallery Walk-through will be Dana Goodman, Associate Professor of Sculpture at IPFW. Goodman’s sculptural work is typically quirky, large-scale ceramic assemblages depicting farm plants and animals. Representing USF will be Mary Klopfer, Associate Professor of Studio Art, Sculpture and Drawing. Klopfer, whose sculpture is usually dark and figurative, will have two pieces on display. Ken Hopper, Associate Professor of Art at Huntington, will show two colorful, large oil paintings. Artlink’s Gallery Walk-through series has been sponsored by grants from the Edward D. and Ione Auer Foundation and the Flora Dale Krouse Foundation.
On display in Artlink’s Push Pin Gallery will be a group of Small Paintings by Norman Bradley, a retired painting professor from IPFW. Bradley’s work will present a veritable slide show of his recent vacation travels. The 20 or so intimate paintings are thick with paint and provide snapshots of “Jalisco Village,” “Morning Fog,” “Yucatan,” “Limerick, Ireland” and “Glen Canyon.”
The exhibit is available for viewing before and after Cinema Center performances and during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Artlink Gallery admission is free to members; a $2 donation is suggested for non-members.

Artful Box 2 at Orchard Gallery in March

Artful Box 2
March 3-31, 2010
Reception on March 6 from 12-5pm.
Local & regional artists have created special boxes for this show. Boxes made from wood, clay, glass, fiber, mixed media, found objects & more! This show was so popular in 2005, we have decided it must happen again. Expect fun & funky boxes, such as that by Raquel Stanek of Washington State. Raquel creates fun mosaics on boxes, such as whimsical birds. Boxes that bring peaceful thoughts, such as local artists: Sue Davis (image above) & Steve Vachon's clay boxes with collage elements & beachstones on the lid, appropriately named "Meditations". Functional boxes include: finely crafted jewelry boxes by David Ross of Bryan, Ohio & glass boxes by Mark Lewanski of Michigan. Even a box that tells time...Kim Rorick has created a unique clock from a box form! Local favorites, Lisa Vetter (image below right) & Paul Siefert have made a shadowbox from recycled materials claimed from the buildings of their old farmhouse. This is just a small sample of what you can expect when you visit The Orchard Gallery during the month of March. To add to the fun, we are giving away 4 gift certificates at $25 each. Stop in to enter to win March 3-31!

Linda Binek and Dick Heffelfinger at Northside Galleries
February 2010
www.northsidegalleries.com
260-483-6624
Located just west of the intersection of State Blvd./Spy Run Ave. In the White and Blue Building across from the old Kroger parking lot.
Open House/ Meet the Artists -- Friday, February 12th, from 4 until 7 or 8pm
Northside Galleries is displaying the fabulous works of Dick Heffelfinger (left) and Linda Binek (below) throughout February. Dick's watercolors depict regional winter scenes and still life's while on the other end, Linda's work is some of the most amazing contemporary watercolor and mixed media we have ever seen- and yes, they are both from Ft. Wayne. The works will be on display throughout the month of February and we are planning an "open house/ meet the artists" for Friday, February 12th, from 4 until 7 or 8pm. Please make a point to stop out to talk about the works with the artists or else come in any other time during business hours or by appointment to see what they are offering.

FUTURE: Coming up this year, we are super excited to be hosting one of the most interesting art shows: "100 Days - 100 Paintings" by Lisa Ransom Smith
Lisa has kept a diligent painting schedule over the last few months (to my knowledge she is just finishing the 100 paintings.) That's right, 1 brand new painting, start to finish, every day!! We will be displaying all 100 paintings somewhere around the end of April into May. (Dates to follow.) This show promises to be extraordinary, strictly in concept if nothing else!!
So, as you can see, big things are happening at Northside Galleries. Ashley also launched our fanpage on Facebook, which she will be updating regularly, so sign up to become a fan and check back often!!
