Meet and Greet the Artists at Northside Galleries this Saturday

Meet Dale White (Contemporary Mixed Media Fine Art) and Jeff Crane (Fine Art Photography) and view their recent artwork.


Jeff Crane has an awesome collection of digitally manipulated photographs depicting all the famous Ft. Wayne landmarks- He has added 8 new images to his collection! He will also be showing some of his Polaroid transfers which are classically amazing!!


Refreshments from Zia's Coffee, Sweets and More will be served. She is making a great spiced apple cider called Wassail that is amazing!

Starting in January we will start having a featured Ft Wayne artist each month. We have some great ideas in the works to create more then just a place to go to see art. As always we will continue to have fine art available from all the best Ft. Wayne artists (and there are some great ones!) as well as art from around the country and around the world. We have pieces in all styles and price ranges in both 2 and 3 dimensions.

Sayaka & Chris Ganz Studio Visit


Artlink members and the public are invited to visit the home studio of artists Christopher and Sayaka Ganz on Friday, November 6 from 6 to 9:00 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided by Club Soda. The artists live at 5702 Homewood Drive, just south of Smith Field and west of Northcrest. Christopher Ganz is an Associate Professor of Printmaking at IPFW and a nationally known drawer and printmaker. He received his MFA from IU, Bloomington. Sayaka Ganz, an exciting sculptor, recently received her MFA from Bowling Green. Sayaka currently has an exhibit of her sculpture at Science Central. The public is invited to talk with the artists, tour the studio and shop at will. Ticket cost is $10 for Artlink members and $15 for non-members. For those of you who missed seeing Terry Ratliff last night, don't worry, we are always carrying his work as well as our other artists. However, we have 3 featured artist shows left this month! Refreshments from Zia's Coffee, Sweets and More will be served. She is making a great spiced apple cider called Wassail that is amazing!

Jeff Crane has an awesome collection of digitally manipulated photographs depicting all the famous Ft Wayne landmarks- From the County Courthouse to Cindy's diner and everything in between! His newest image taken from the top of the Summit Building downtown on TinCaps opening night has been a huge hit! The edition sizes are limited and they are going fast, so hurry in and get your hands on one!

Colorful Glass by Charlotte Behrens & Kathy Hudson

Two women, Kathy Hudson from Texas & Charlotte Behrens from Illinois present their colorful glasswork at The Orchard Gallery. Kathy's work is both functional and decorative...with cheese trays, plates and picture frames. Charlotte's work is more decorative. Freestanding glass sculptures with many colors and abstract patterns. She also makes smaller items that are often used as ornaments, suck as hearts, snowflakes and stars. Prices are reasonable....and with the variety in colors and styles, the glass by either of these women make for nice holiday gifting.

Travel to Italy and Greece with the School of Creative Arts

The School of Creative Arts of the University of Saint Francis is offering area college students and the community an opportunity to visit Italy and Greece from May 3 through May 14, 2010.

Among the memorable sites, travelers will visit the Coliseum in Rome; tour St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City; admire Michelangelo’s paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel; view Giotto’s Bell Tower in Florence; visit the hilltop town of Assisi; journey to the quaint coastal town of Ancona; journey through vineyards and orchards in Delphi, home of the mystical Oracle; and walk through the Plaka district in Athens.

College course credit is available, and all university students and the general public are invited. The package includes flight, hotel, transportation, museum fees, tour guide, continental breakfast and dinner each day.

An informational meeting will be held on Sunday, October 25 at 6 p.m. in room 115 of the Rolland Art Center on Leesburg Road.

Downtown Design Awards

The Downtown Improvement District seeks nominations for the first of what we expect to be an annual recognition of superior design for downtown projects recently completed.

Projects will be considered in three categories:
» Architecture
» Landscape
» Signs / Graphics

DID is joining with the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects and ARCH (Architecture and Community Heritage, Inc.) to present design and preservation awards at a combined celebration and reception to take place on November 11.

Arts United is seeking artwork from individuals, businesses, schools, social clubs and arts groups for the second "Community Mosaic" project. Huntington University Gallery to exhibit works by Pamela Chase Newell

Huntington University’s Robert E. Wilson Gallery will feature works by award-winning Indiana artist Pamela Chase Newell from Oct. 15 to Nov. 14. The exhibit will include luminous oil and pastel paintings of landscapes, gardens and still-life pieces.

“I paint the transient light and color that captivates me and hope the moment portrayed touches the heart of the viewer,” Chase Newell said in her artist statement.

The gallery will host an artist reception for Chase Newell from 6 pm to 7:30 pm on Oct. 23.

The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre for the Arts performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Gallery Director Susan Yee at (260) 359-4331 or syee@huntington.edu.

Specializing in impressionistic style paintings of landscapes, gardens, and still life, Pamela Chase Newell’s expressive work reflects a love of gardening (as an Advanced Master Gardener), landscapes and nature. She works in pure pastel, pastel over water media, and oil. The Fishers artist is a workshop instructor, a faculty member of the Indianapolis Art Center, and also teaches at the Hamilton County Art Center.




Chase Newell received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. She continued her study at the Indianapolis Art Center. She also has studied with Ron Mack, Dan Woodson, Bob Eberle, Todd Reifers, noted American Impressionist C.W. Mundy, and most recently David Slonim.

Chase Newell’s luminous colorful paintings have been selected for numerous exhibits including the Hoosier Salon where she has exhibited for 13 years, Indiana Heritage Arts, Indiana Artists Club, Minnetrista (“Art about the Land”), the Cincinnati Art Club (“ViewPoint”), National Juried Art Competition, and the Chicago Pastel Painters National Juried Exhibition. She has had work selected for many solo shows. The Richmond Art Museum selected her paintings in 2008 for an invitational exhibit showcasing pastels by 13 award-winning artists from Indiana and Ohio. In 2007, she exhibited in a collaborative solo show with the Smithsonian Institute at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center in Zionsville. Chase Newell was the featured artist in the 2007 January/February edition of Fishers/Geist Magazine.

Presented at the School of Creative Arts Closer Look Lecture Series

As part of the Closer Look Lecture Series, the School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis will host a photographer’s lecture and book signing by Sam Abell through the Canon Explorers of Light Program on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring Street. Mr. Abell's lecture 'The Photographic Life' illuminates the adventures and misadventures encountered while making some of National Geographic's most recognized images. His lecture also takes up the intriguing question of what gives life to a photograph.

Sam Abell is an American photographer whose 30-year career has been dedicated to achieving artistic expression through documentary photography. He has pursued his goals primarily through his in-depth coverage for National Geographic magazine and its Book Division. At the same time, he has maintained a career as an artist, teacher and author.

Originally from Sylvania, Ohio, Abell graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Toledo. Mr. Abell is a member of the board of the directors of the Santa Fe Center for Photography, the George Eastman House and the University of Virginia Art Museum. In 2002 he collaborated with Leah Bendavid-Val on a retrospective of his life and work titled Sam Abell: The Photographic Life, published by Rizzoli. He is also the author of the book Seeing Gardens, published in 2001. Mr. Abell's most recent book The Life of a Photograph was published in 2008 by National Geographic. He will be available to sign copies of the book after his lecture.

ARTS Weekly airs on PBS39 and College Access TeleVision

Channel 39 (Fios 3 & 470; Comcast 3 & 240) will be airing ARTS Weekly every Sunday at 7:30 PM. It started this past Sunday. The program by IPFW will feature stories and interviews with local artists and performers. Mini-Quilts Honor AIDS Task Force’s 25 Years


To commemorate the AIDS Task Force’s 25th Anniversary, Artlink is hosting a Mini Quilt Exhibit in its Push Pin Gallery (formerly the Hallway Gallery) now through December 2.

Eighteen area artists created 22 mixed media mini quilts to honor and commemorate the Task Force. The artwork, no larger than 12”x12”, is priced to sell, most for under $100. Many of the artists have donated their portion of the sale price to the Task Force. Artlink, which usually receives 35% of all art sales, will donate half of their proceeds to the Task Force as well.

Included in the group of well-known artists who have created these unique and inspiring pieces of little art are: Jay Bastian, Linda Binek, Rebecca Good, Diane Groenert, Roger Hultquist, Tammy Maldeney (piece is shown above), Dan Swartz, Lina Zerkle and Terry Ratliff.

In partnership with the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, Artlink also hosted a cast/crew party on October 2 for the Civic Theatre’s Off Main Production of Quilt – A Musical Celebration, which runs through October 18.
