Mixed Metal Jewelry by Greg & BJ Jordan

Two of Fort Wayne's favorite jewelers, Greg & BJ Jordan present their newest mixed metal jewelry at The Orchard Gallery. FROM GREG & BJ: "As individuals, we combine our vision to fabricate mixed metal pieces designed under the influence of primitive culture and symbolism. Working together as a team, we share equally in the design and construction processes while bringing different attributes. Greg's designs are more architectural and are infused with a sense of humor. BJ tends more toward primitve designs, drawn from nature, and infused with spiritual undertones. Combined, there is much to be seen in each piece."

ABOUT THE ARTWORK....
All of our jewelry is hand built from Sterling Silver, and Brass. We sometimes add found objects such as beach glass or rocks and occasionally we use semiprecious stones. We also have a line of items that includes the use of polymar clay.

Our work has what we refer to as an "oxidized" finish. The oxidation is brought about through a process involving a chemical called liver of sulphur. Depending on the technique used, the sulphur can turn silver a rainbow of colors from turquoise to matte black. We usually steel wool most of the color off to achieve more of a pewter-type finish, but sometimes the color is left to be what it is.

All of the earwires we use are Niobium and all the posts are Sterling Silver. We use Niobium simply because it matches the color of the oxidized Sterling so well. Niobium is NOT an alloy and contains NO Nickel!
Sizes and measurements in the catalog are approximate! Our work is not cast or machine reproduced. We hand build each piece starting from scratch every time. With this in mind, please know that every earring, pin, or pendant may vary slightly in size, and shape. Most of our metals have patterns on them that have been hand etched. These too, will vary. You can rest assured that the jewelry you order from what you see here on our website will be as close in quality to the original as is humanly possible!

A unique Postcard Art Show is attracting hundreds of visitors to Artlink’s Hallway Gallery, located in the hallway between Artlink and Cinema Center, 437 E. Berry St. The exhibit consists of approximately 350 pieces of original mail art sent (via U.S. Postal Service) to Artlink by more than 200 artists from across the country and overseas. The postcards are being sold for $5 each as a fundraiser in support of exhibition programming for the not-for-profit contemporary art gallery. The little art comes in all media and can be purchased during regular gallery hours through January 14, 2009. The cards must remain on the walls until the exhibit comes down on January 15.

Artists from 16 states, Canada, Italy and Yemen submitted their original art works. Twelve cities in Indiana are also represented. In addition, stacks of mail art were received from local and area high schools. Over 100 postcards came from Carroll, Homestead and Snider High Schools in Fort Wayne, as well as a few bundles of cards from Houghton Lake High School in Michigan. Artlink wishes to thank these students in particular for helping to make the exhibit a success.

On the walls of Artlink’s Main Gallery is Fort Wayne Photographers, an exhibit by 62 of the finest local and regional photographers. One photo from each photographer is on display through January 14, 2009. Artlink members may view the exhibit for free; a $2 donation is suggested for non-members.

Terry Ratliff's work on White House Christmas Tree

Indiana Senator Dick Lugar selected Fort Wayne artist Terry Ratliff to decorate the State's ornament for the 2008 White House Christmas Tree.

This year's theme was A Red, White & Blue Christmas. See Terry's and the other White House ornaments at http://www.whitehouse.gov/holiday/2008/ornamentsbystate/index.html.

First Lady Laura Bush mentioned Terry's ornament as one of her favorites on the tree during a Today Show segment with David Gregory. View the excerpt at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPXVz7CAruo, about 1:20 seconds into the recording. Congratulations Terry!
