Fort Wayne Photographers opens at Artlink

Cara Lee Wade, Assistant Professor of Photography, University of St. Francis presents an exhibition walk-through and discussion of photographic processes

Artlink invites the public to view Fort Wayne Photographers, a biennial exhibition of work by over 60 area photographers. The exhibition opens on Friday, December 12 with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Cara Lee Wade, Assistant Professor of Photography from the University of Saint Francis, will walk through the exhibit with viewers and discuss photographic processes on display. Wade will begin the walk-through at 6 p.m.

The exhibition includes recent work by commercial photographers and photojournalists, university and high school photography instructors, and fine art photographers.

“The breadth of talented photographers in the region is amazing. This show should be one of the best photography exhibits of the year,” said Deb Washler, Artlink Executive Director.

Included in the exhibition are photojournalists Ellie Bogue, Cathie Rowand and Sam Hoffman. Photography teachers included are Nicole Croy, Jim Gabbard, Al Jacquay II and Cara Lee Wade. Among the best regional artists are Dixie Landis Bradley, Christopher Crawford, Maria Davis of Angola, Dan Dienelt, Ellen England, Palermo Galindo, Matt Kelly, Michael Mettler, Lucyna Nicklin, Holly and Shane Perfect, Stephen Perfect, Sue Sells, Dan Swartz and Jason Swisher. Top commercial photographers include Robert Borel, Bill Christie, Jeffrey Crane, John Escosa, Tom Galliher, Bill Nichols, Ron Patton and Patrick Roberts.

Opening in the Hallway Gallery also on December 12 is The Postcard Art Show, a fundraiser for Artlink. Artists from across the nation were asked to create an original work of art on a postcard and mail it to the gallery. These authentic, postmarked works of art will be for sale with all proceeds benefiting Artlink’s exhibition programming.

Artlink offers Adobe Photoshop and InDesign workshops

Artlink will offer three workshops this January on how to operate and utilize Adobe Photoshop and InDesign programs. All workshops will be held in the gallery at 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Participants must bring their own personal laptop computer with the program being utilized already installed. The workshops are: Photoshop with Karen Thompson on Saturday, January 17; InDesign with Jeff Dollens on Saturday, January 24; and Photoshop and Photoshop Elements as a Design Tool with Beth Wheeler on Saturday, January 31. Cost per workshop is $25 for Artlink members and $30 for non-members. Sign up for two or more workshops and the fee is $20 per workshop for Artlink members and $25 for non-members.

Photoshop with Karen Thompson – Saturday, January 17, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Learn how to create unusual effects: smoke, mirror, use of photo filters, rain drops, overall and isolated diffusion and transparency in objects. Students will use their own photos to create layers, use text and learn the power of color adjustments. Bring your laptop with Photoshop 6, 7 or CS (any version) installed.

InDesign with Jeff Dollens – Saturday, January 24, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Learn how to navigate InDesign, a powerful layout program, to fully utilize program capabilities. Learn about layers, use of text and many other techniques. Bring your laptop with InDesign 2.0 or CS versions installed.

Photoshop and Photoshop Elements as a Design Tool with Beth Wheeler – Saturday, January 31, noon to 4:00 p.m.
Learn how tools work, how to move around Photoshop Elements and how to manipulate photographic images or line drawings. Bring your laptop with Photoshop Elements 6 or Photoshop CS versions installed.

Artlink Contemporary Art Gallery will welcome holiday shoppers with a cookie and punch reception on Saturday, November 22 from noon to 5:00 p.m. to celebrate the opening of its Holiday Art Market. Special artful gift items will be on sale at the gallery through December 23. Gift items will be affordable, one-of-a-kind creations made by local artists.

Artlink’s staple artists will be displaying new items, including jewelry from Cat’s Creations, Ruth Wartell, Deb Washler, Kris Fleming and Brigitte Buldt. Clay artists include Kristy Jo Beber, Cayla Veach, Karen McArdle and new artist Laura Brandenburg. GaGa Bags is back with funky handbags, and Barry Belknap is bringing in some of his newly turned wooden bowls and wine stoppers.

“We’ll have some great gifts for the artsy people in your life,” said Artlink Executive Director Deb Washler. “We’re bringing in some new artists this year — Leslie Lundgren with her bright scarves and The Green Stitch with cloth creations, including little stuffed monsters. They’re quite fun!”

Artlink’s Holiday Art Market continues through December 23 with hours Tuesday-Saturday noon to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday evenings 6 to 9 p.m.
