Call for Artists - See the Need

New Horizon Community Church of Winona Lake, IN is seeking artwork for our annual See the Need Exhibit, a three-day event dedicated to highlighting local social issues though the arts. Last year, we focused on poverty in our community, and had great exposure and turnout. This year, we are drawing attention to the problem of domestic violence. In addition to the art exhibit, we will host nightly activities including a catered artists’ reception, a question and answer session with Domestic Violence Intervention Specialist Becky Moreno, and concerts by Mason Proper and Darkroom. All activities are free, but donations will be taken to help establish a One-Stop Center to assist victims of domestic violence in Kosciusko County.

As this year’s focus is to raise awareness of domestic violence in our community, we are interested in artwork in any media that explores this topic. A rear projection
screen is available for digital entries.

Submissions will be juried, and selected pieces will be exhibited from November 6 through the 8. Fill out the entry form provided at http://www.seetheneed.org/forms/Call_for_Entries_2008.pdf.

Artlink’s Regional Opens

Artlink’s 7th Regional Exhibition opens this Friday, October 17 with a reception for the artists and the public from 7 to 9:00 p.m. This exciting exhibition, which is held every two years, draws artwork from cities 100 miles away from Artlink. The Artlink Artist Panel selects the best artists from the entrants and an outside judge selects three prize winners. This year, Patricia Nelson, Art Professor from Ball State University in Muncie was the awards selector. The three winners will each receive $500 and a chance to exhibit together in the Main Gallery in December, 2009. The winners will be announced at the opening reception.

The exhibit has 77 works of art by 40 artists. Artists who are relatively new to Artlink’s audience include Marie Gardeski of Fort Wayne, Alexander Jones of Winona Lake, Andrew Lemmon of Kendallville, Wendi Norton of Goshen, Kevin Schroeder of Toledo, Ohio, Joshua Witten and Josef Zimmerman both of Fort Wayne. Some Fort Wayne artists included in the show are Linda Binek, David Birkey, Fred Doloresco, Sam Hoffman, Jim Jur, Tom Keesee, Alan McLuckie, Karen Moriarty, George Morrison, Stephen Perfect, Audrey Riley, David Seculoff, Sue Sells, Susie Suraci and Cara Wade.

Unusual for Artlink is the inclusion in the exhibition of two large (5’ and 6’) sculptures and an installation. All were created by Andrew Lemmon of Kendallville. The works are non-representational and fun to walk around. And though they may feel the urge, visitors are asked not to touch the artwork.

The Hallway Gallery will feature Artwork by Dixie Bradley.
