Award-winning artwork by children of Northeast Indiana along with artwork by children of Plock, Poland may be viewed through August at the First Presbyterian Art Gallery, 300 W. Wayne Street, in Fort Wayne. In a spirit of cultural exchange, FAME invited Fort Wayne Sister Cities International (FWSCI) to exhibit 30 pieces of artwork by Polish elementary students at the Grand Wayne Center last March during the FAME Festival of the Arts. FWSCI then chose 30 pieces from the FAME exhibit to be exhibited in Poland this fall. The Plock and the FAME artwork will be on display at the Wayne Street gallery through August 24. All 60 pieces will then be taken to Poland for display at the Plock City Hall, at the oldest school in Poland, Stanislaw Malachowski High School (over 800 years old) and at the Wladyslaw Jagiello High School.

Sister Cities International began in 1956 with a proposal from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to promote international friendship and understanding. Fort Wayne became a member of Sister Cities International in 1976 when an agreement was signed with the government of Takaoka, Japan. Sisterhood with Plock, Poland was signed in 1990 and with Gera, Germany in 1992. Hundreds of cultural exchange programs have taken place over the years, including high school exchange programs, folk song and dance ensembles, Boy Scout troop visits, and many official government and corporate visits. Long-time friendships have developed and understanding between cultures has been broadened through the work of Sister Cities International.
