Artlink Print Show 28 Years Strong

The 28th Annual National Print Exhibition opens on Friday, April 11 at
Artlink, 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne. The opening reception will be
from 7 to 9:00 p.m. The public is invited.

Artlink's National Print Competition has drawn artwork from the best
printmakers in America for over a quarter of a century. This year, for the
first time in its history, Artlink gave the task of selecting the prints to
be exhibited to an outside judge. Artlink was proud to have Mark Pascale,
Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago,
review over 300 images submitted from across the country. Pascale, who is
also Adjunct Professor of Art in Print Media at the School of the Art
Institute, selected 79 beautiful hand-pulled prints by 72 artists from 26
states. Pascale selected over a dozen printmakers to share the $2,200 in
prize money made possible through the generous support of the Lincoln
Financial Group Foundation. The prize winners will be announced at the
opening reception on April 11.

The work of 13 printmakers from Indiana was selected for this national exhibition. Artists from Fort Wayne include Art Cislo, Christopher Ganz, Dennis Hettler, Josh Hoering, Debbie Ngo and Jauneth Skinner. Other Hoosiers on display are Pam Bradshaw of Kendallville, Laura Foster from West Lafayette, Steve Garst of Fortville, David B. Johnson of Muncie, Judy Leiviska of Indianapolis, Susan J. Perl of Albion and Andrea A. Peterson of LaPorte. A free print catalogue listing all participants along with print terminology will be available in the gallery during the exhibition.

On April 26 the public is invited to learn the art of Moku Hanga, the art of Japanese Woodblock Printing, during a day-long workshop which will be run in the gallery by Tom Keesee, printmaking professor from the University of Saint Francis. This ancient form of printmaking is a non-toxic technique utilizing watercolor instead of printer's ink, and no printing press is needed. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $30 for Artlink members and $35 for non-members. Space is limited, so register soon.
