Artlink Members Show Gives First-Ever People’s Choice Awards
Exhibition up through August 15, 2007 at Artlink
437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802; (260) 424-7195
GALLERY HOURS:
Tuesday – Saturday noon-5:00 p.m., Sunday 1-5:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday evenings 6-9:00 p.m.
COST: Free for Artlink members, non-members $2 suggested donation
CONTACT: Deb Washler, Executive Director, deb@artlinkfw.com
For the first time ever, People’s Choice Awards were voted on at Artlink’s annual Members Show opening reception on Friday, July 13 at the gallery. Close to 450 attendees were asked to vote for their top 10 favorite pieces of artwork from among the record 170 pieces on display from the membership.
The results were tabulated and announced at an after-party at Park Place restaurant on Main Street. The award winners were: Lynn Berry, Jeff Crane, Joel Fremion, Gwen Gutwein, James Jur, Lloyd King, Ales Pancner, Ron Patton, Michael Poorman and Diane Schafer. The winners received gift certificates donated by local businesses and valued at up to $50.
“People love the Members Show because it gives all our members a chance to exhibit one piece of their own artwork,” said Artlink Executive Director Deb Washler of the non-juried show. “So as long as the piece is properly wired for hanging and it’s within the size limitation, we’ll display it.
“Of course, as our artist membership grows, our gallery walls seem to be getting smaller, but who’s complaining?” she joked.

July 16 thru August 31, 2007
Mixed mediums by various artists at the Creative Arts Center of Wells County
Artist's gallery party: Sunday, July 29 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Mention Wells County and many images come to mind: the main street bridge, the Wabash River, the fire tower at Ouabache State Park, Kunkel Lake, the fields, the woods, quiet neighborhoods, Bluffton Free Street Fair, the stately courthouse clock. Because the Wells County area is so rich in imagery, the Creative Arts Council is excited to feature this open-call exhibit in the Balentine Gallery. Paintings, pastels, fabric art, photography and a selection of other works are part of the exhibit. As you browse, cast your vote for the People's Choice Award. Many items are for sale and would make a very personal focal point for any home or business. The exhibit is sponsored by Coldwell Banker Ellenberger Realtors (Photo: "Day is done" by Deb Perry)

Forged art! the art of blacksmithing
Open call for primative and contemporary blacksmith artists at the Creative Arts Center of Wells County
October 15 thru November 28, 2007

Blacksmithing is not defined by a time period or an artistic motif. Blacksmithing is defined by the process alone. This unique heritage exhibit celebrates the art of forged metal, from garden ironswork to architectural elements, home furnishings to tools. Local artists include Mark Thomas of Markle (pictured above) and Dr. Rob Evans of Bluffton. Interested blacksmith artists should notify the CAC of their intention of exhibiting as soon as possible (artist info below). An open air demonstration is planned during this exhibit (TBA). Sponsors of the exhibit are Wayne Metals LLC and Almco Steel Products Corporatio.
Creative Arts Center of Wells County: 211 West Water Street, Bluffton, Indiana 46714
ARTIST INFORMATION: To receive an entry form, or to suggest an artist to be contacted, interested persons may contact the CAC at 260-824-5222 or email at CAC@parlorcity.com. Wall space is available to hang lightweight items. Artists should furnish a freestanding device to support heavier hanging items. In the adjoining boardroom, built-in shelving is available to display a limited number of small/medium flat or 3-D works. Pedestals for larger 3-D works must be provided by the artist. Areas are available for freestanding work. A limited number of tables are available for display (call for availability). Each item should be titled by the artist. You may use your own creativity, but there are a few requirements: include the inventory number of the work specific for this exhibit, the artist’s name, title and price (or NFS). Large font lettering (minimum size 18pt.) is required for the visually impaired. Sold works remain on display until the end of the exhibit unless arrangements are made with the artist, the CAC office and the purchaser. A commission of 30% is retained for the CAC on all work sold.

Ventures in Creativity show at Library ends SOON
I've been remiss not to blog about the beautiful exhibit at the new downtown Main Library (yes, where I work!): Ventures in Creativity, a juried show by the Fort Wayne Artist Guild. It's been a pleasure to see people in the gallery every time I do get the chance to go by. The show ends soon though (end of this week, I think). So come on down and enjoy while there is time. www.acpl.info.

Jerrod Tobias - "Lucid & Elusive"
Charlie Cummings Clay Studio
July 14th - 27th, 2007
"A Professor once described my work as 'lucid and elusive'. It baffled me at the time, but since then has permeated as a metaphor, not only through my artwork, but also throughout my life. As a traditional painter, I strive to embrace the soul of the individual whose likeness I transcribe. This human spirit can be an elusive, abstract entity. However, through a well oiled channel of mind, eye, and hand, an artist may penetrate this timeless thread." - Jerrod Tobias
Join us for the opening reception Saturday July 14th, 7-10PM.
Preview the exhibition online at www.claylink.com.
The reception will feature a special performance by Fort Wayne's own Left Lane Cruiser. Learn about the band and preview their music at: www.myspace.com/leftlanecruiser.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Free Lecture and Demonstration!
Indiana’s own nationally-renowned bronze sculptor Tuck Langland will discuss his artwork, current projects in public art nationwide, and even provide a demonstration of lost-wax technique—used by sculptors for millennia!
Sculptor Tuck Langland is dedicated to art and the teaching of art. A retired Professor of Sculpture from the South Bend campus of Indiana University (where he taught from 1971 to 2003), Tuck designed and built the school’s sculpture studio from scratch, including the foundry. During this time, his interest in creating and casting bronze sculpture never wavered.
In addition to his teaching, the American art world also knows him well as a sculptor whose works are in collections, museums, and public plazas across the U.S. and Europe, and as an award-winning master of portraiture and the human figure.
The author of two acclaimed books on sculpture, Langland is currently at work on his third book, which will focus on techniques of portrait sculpture.

14 Portraits of the 7 Deadly Sins or Variations of Western Shame
Video Art Show
John Hartman
Opening Reception July 14th, 8pm at the Kachmann Gallery
$5 cover, or $3 with TRF button
Live performance by All Nite Skate & cash bar.
Video artist John Hartman takes a modern look at The Seven Deadly Sins
through his Hi-Def lens. The video installation questions, "What is sin?"
For the past five years, John has had a vision to combine film and art in a way
that few others have. His vision has been of floating images on walls and tabletops. With the advent of flat screen televisions, John's vision has become reality. Through "14 Portraits of 7 Deadly Sins or Variations of Western Shame," John is creating a series of fourteen video portraits that combine this country's evangelical beliefs with it's original sin. His ultimate goal however, is to showcase through the marvels of modern technology, that moving images are a viable art - not just in a gallery or museum, but also in the comfort of your home.
