Manco has taught cartooning and comic book design for elementary and high school students for over 10 years. His focus for the Artlink classes will be on anatomy and drawing the human figure using heroic proportions, forced perspective and foreshortening - all techniques which are used to create dynamic action in comic books.

Some openings are still available for young artists in Manco’s June 11 to 15 afternoon session (from 1 to 3 p.m.) and for the June 18 to 22 sessions (10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3:00 p.m.). WHEN: Opening reception Friday, May 25, 2007, 7-9:00 p.m.
The exhibition runs through July 5, 2007

CONTACT: Deb Washler, Executive Director, 260-424-7195, deb@artlinkfw.com

One of Artlink’s most prestigious shows, the 27th Annual National Print Exhibition, opens on Friday, May 25 at Artlink, 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne. The opening reception will be from 7 to 9:00 p.m. The public is invited.

Artlink’s annual print competition draws artwork from the best printmakers in America. This year, 57 printmakers from 20 states are exhibiting over 100 prints. Artlink, with the support of Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, awarded $2,200 in prize money to 15 artists. The awards presenter, Brett Colley, Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University of Allendale, Michigan, gave the top prize of $300 to Harold Lohner of Albany, New York, for his monoprint entitled “Alchemist I.” Among the 15 prize winners were four Hoosiers, including Ramiro Rodriguez of South Bend who won $200 for a woodblock relief, IPFW printmaking instructor Christopher Ganz who won $150 for an intaglio print, Emily Leiserson of Muncie who won $100 for an ambitious woodcut and letterpress book, and Steve Garst of Fortville who won $100 for a book of etchings. A print catalogue listing all participants along with print terminology is available in the gallery at no charge to visitors.

After a morning of judging prints at Artlink, Colley remarked, “It was nice to finally see the Artlink space up close and personal. It seems like a lot of cool things are happening here. I had great fun perusing the work of so many familiar ‘print peers’…I wish you a smashing success with the reception.”

Artlink hours are Tuesday - Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., Sunday 1-5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday evenings 6-9 p.m. Admission is free for Artlink members, $2 suggested donation for non-members. Artlink is a not-for-profit contemporary art gallery and a funded member of Arts United.
