Huntington University to hold 17th Annual Student Art Exhibit
Artist Mee Kyung Shim will serve as guest juror for Huntington University's 17th Annual Student Art Exhibit, to be held in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery on April 10-24, 2007.
Shim earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Wayne State University in Michigan in 1999. She has exhibited widely in the Midwest since moving from South Korea to the U.S. Locally, her work has been shown at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Artlink, and Avant-Garde and Kachmann galleries in Fort Wayne. In addition, she has been awarded fellowships and artist-in-residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and at Anderson
Ranch Arts Center in Colorado.
Shim will select the work for the student art exhibit as well as award best of show, first place, second place, third place and special achievement recognitions.
The pieces for the exhibit were created by Huntington University students, freshmen through seniors, who are enrolled in one or more art courses. This will be the first exhibition for this particular work. All types of media will be represented.
An artist reception and awards ceremony will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 14 in the Wilson Gallery.
The 17th Annual Student Art Exhibit is open to the public. The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Rebecca Coffman, gallery director, at (260) 359-4272.

Artlink Bus Trip to the Art Institute of Chicago
WHEN: Tuesday, April 24, 2007
Departing 7:30 a.m. from Meijer’s parking lot on Lima Road
COST: Artlink members $65, non-members $68
DEADLINE: April 9, 2007
CONTACT: Deb Washler, Executive Director, 260-424-7195,
email: deb@artlinkfw.com; www.artlinkfw.com
Artlink is sponsoring a daylong bus trip to the Art Institute of Chicago on Tuesday, April 24 to view “Cezanne to Picasso: Ambroise Vollard, Patron of the Avant-Garde.” The bus will leave Fort Wayne at 7:30 a.m. from Meijer’s parking lot on Lima Road. The trip will include a guided tour of the Glessner House on Prairie Avenue, in one of Chicago’s wealthiest neighborhoods, as well as admission to the Art Institute and the special exhibition at 12:30. Participants are free to lunch or shop anywhere they choose during the afternoon. The bus will depart from Chicago at 5:30 p.m. and arrive in Fort Wayne at approximately 8:30 p.m. Cost is $65 for Artlink members and $68 for non-members. Price includes museum and exhibit admission, transportation, driver tip and morning and evening snacks. Contact Artlink for a registration form at 260-424-7195.
The “Cezanne to Picasso” exhibition concentrates on the artists represented by art dealer Ambroise Vollard, who in 1895 hosted Cezanne’s first solo exhibition. Vollard became the principal dealer of artists such as Gauguin, Van Gogh, Bonnard, Matisse and Picasso and collected their work for his personal collection. This exhibition, which includes many portraits of Vollard painted by these artists, underscores his importance. Several of these works are on view for the first time in Chicago.
Artlink’s bus trip to Chicago is one of two annual trips to prominent Midwestern art museums sponsored by the gallery. Artlink is a not-for-profit contemporary art gallery founded in 1978 whose principal mission is to showcase artwork of highest quality by emerging or mid-career artists. Artlink is a funded member of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne.
(Aside) Sounds like a spectacular exhibition!
