In Memoriam...Reid Chapman

On November 29, 2006, Reid Chapman, veteran broadcaster and avid painter, passed away. His work in both areas leaves a legacy. Read more about this well-lived life in A Legendary Broadcaster from the December 1, 2006 Journal Gazette. He had many ties to the ACPL. Besides his work with NEIRRS, he was invited to lecture at the library regarding the early days of broadcasting in Fort Wayne. His daughter and daughter-in-law still work at the library.

He will be sorely missed by many.

The Cup: The Intimate Object V
Charlie Cummings Clay Studio
Opening Reception: Saturday, December 2 from 6-9 PM

The Cup exhibition juried by Peter Pinnell is now ready for viewing and shopping on our web site. Please join us Saturday, December 2nd, 6-9PM for the reception of this exhibition. We will have live music, free food and drinks, and 180 wonderful cups made by 70 artists from all over the US and Canada. Mr. Pinnell will be here to choose the award winners and to enjoy the warm hospitality of Fort Wayne's art loving community.

Why "The Intimate Object" you ask?
When I was developing this exhibition series over 6 years ago, I realized that cups are the only ceramic object that every person understands and uses. Even more, we put cups to our lips every day. Most art is viewed from a distance, but cups are experienced when you touch them to your lips.

The cups in this exhibition cover a wide range of ideas about what a cup should be and do...from simple and beautiful containers for drinks, to cups that deny function, to cups that suggest dire consequences of you try to use them.
