Artlink’s 6th Regional ExhibItion Opens
The public is invited to attend Artlink’s 6th Regional Exhibition which opens with a reception from 7 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, at Artlink, 437 E. Berry Street, Fort Wayne.
On display are 78 images in various media by artists of Allen County and surrounding counties. There will be a lot of familiar names in this show, but what is different is that most of the artists will have two or three pieces of their work hanging together. The regional show happens every other year and acts as an overview of the region’s best artists. An outside judge, Brian Byrn from Elkhart’s Midwest Museum of American Art, will select three winners from the field of 34 artists. The winners receive $500 each and will have a three-person show in October, 2007. The lucky winners will be announced at the opening reception on October 6.
There are strong painters in competition this year, including Norman Bradley, April Knox, Michael Poorman, Kat Rohrbacher, David Seculoff and Charlie Spear of Peru. Some top photographers on exhibit include Madeline Gutwein, Jamie Hahn, Holly Heath, Michael Mettler, David Skalicky, and Cara Lee Wade all from Fort Wayne and Barclay Hurst of Leo. For three-dimensional artwork there is glass artist Kathy Watson and Judy Wintin’s glazed earthenware. Sculpture is well represented with the earthenware sculpture of Dianna Huxhold from Fort Wayne and three mixed media pieces made of paper, plaster and wood by Ryan Gruenewald of Goshen. Also, Roger Sugden of Fort Wayne has a striking found object sculpture. Three bold mixed media pieces by Audrey Riley of Fort Wayne are noteworthy as are the brilliantly colored fiber works by Auburn artist Ellen Stuckey.
The Hallway Gallery will feature the Barn Project Exhibition of oil paintings by Gwen Gutwein.
Both exhibits will be on view through November 8.
