Charlie Cummings Clay Studio's September exhibition, Muse of Fire: The Ceramic Figure, featuring Tom Bartel, Liz Bryant, R. Bruce Flowers , Marie Gibbons, Dana Groemminger, Gregg Jabs, Kyle & Kelly Phelps, Katy Rush, Matt Shaffer, and Paul Andrew Wandless is now available for viewing on our web site.
Our innate emotional and intellectual responses make the human figure the most powerful form in art. The figure is the most direct means by which artists address issues of humanity, ideas about ourselves as individuals, and views on our culture. Muse of Fire: The Ceramic Figure features 11 contemporary ceramic artists. From R. Bruce Flowers' reflections on same-sex relationships to Kyle and Kelly Phelps' musings on racial conflict, we see in clay the vexing issues of the day. Artists Liz Bryant, Marie Gibbons, Paul Andrew Wandless, and Dana Groemminger use the human form as a canvas for the expression of inner life, turmoil, and often unseen facets of the mind. The work of Tom Bartel, Gregg Jabs, Katy Rush, and Matt Shaffer explore sexuality, identity, mortality and the impermanence of life.
Join us Saturday September 9th, 6-9PM for the reception of this exhibition, or visit us on the FWMoA Trolley Tour September 21st.
