Artlink’s Wet Paint Auction returns to Rose Garden

On Sunday, September 24, come rain or shine, approximately 20 local artists will be painting in Artlink’s Wet Paint Auction. The fundraising event takes place at Lakeside Park, Fort Wayne, Pavilion #1 from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Artists participating in the event include: Dean Ellerbusch, Suzanne Galazka, Gwen Gutwein, Matt Kelly, April Knox, Don Kruse, Heidi Malott, Don Osos, Michelle J. Panasuk and Terry Ratliff.

This is an educational event and fun for the whole family. Artists begin working at 9 a.m. and finish at 1 p.m. The artists have their easels set up all over the park and the public is invited to watch them create. Silent bids may be made all day at Pavilion #1, but most of the bidding will take place as the painters bring their wet artwork to the pavilion at 1:00 p.m. There’s always a scramble to get one more bid in on a favorite painting or two. Bid sheets are picked up at 1:30 p.m. and the winners take their wet masterpieces home. All proceeds from the Wet Paint Auction go to Artlink, Inc., Fort Wayne’s not-for-profit contemporary art gallery.

Suzanne Galazka who helps organize the event says, “We usually have a wide variety of talented artists participate in this event and an interesting mix of materials used by the artists. I remember one year photographer Cathie Rowand took pictures and developed them in the back of her van. I think that’s pretty amazing. Also last time, Jaleh Fazel, the potter, brought some newly made pots to the park, sat among the rose bushes and glazed the pots with the rose bushes as her inspiration. After the bidding, she took the pots home to fire them. I think that’s going beyond the call - and all for Artlink. Folks got some really nice artwork from that auction.”
